Peace workers and modern folk musicians, Paul Kamm and Eleanore
MacDonald have been performing original, contemporary folk
music together for 23 years. Their music, a blend of contemporary
and traditional styles, is graced by their exquisite harmony,
compelling songwriting, deceptively simple arrangements and
intricate guitar work.
Hailing from Nevada City, CA., they've been applauded throughout
the US as well as overseas for the lyrical content of their songs as
well as their vocal blend... They have a haunting style which
weaves their harmonies into a rich tapestry of guitar and storytelling.
Both Paul & Eleanore have "sure and graceful voices but oh, when
they meld it’s one of those majestic, sinfully rich pleasures-- like
a musical S’more..." (Dirty Linen Mag. #40)
Kerrville, Telluride and Rocky Mtn. New Folk award winners,
Kamm and MacDonald have also been working tirelessly for peace
and justice and the last few years have found them working quite
often alongside their respected elder; raconteur, wobblie and rabble
rouser U. Utah Phillips. They’ve been asked to perform anywhere
from the steps of the CA capitol building in Sacramento, Ca. for an
anti-war rally, for various political campaign, to benefits for
Amnesty International and Physician’s for Social Responsibility.
They’ve been busy on the road regionally, performing in concert
venues, house concerts, as opening acts, and festivals like
Strawberry, Kerrville and the Kate Wolf Festival - they found
themselves sharing a late night stage at the Kate Wolf Festival in ‘04,
with Eliza Gilkyson, Jimmy LaFave, Steve Earle and Jackson
Browne for a tribute to Woody Guthrie. Their songs , whether
pointing to relationship, a character or world events always are
offered gently, draped in ethereal harmony, encouraging the listener
to feel or think in ways they may never have before.
They’ve been heard and seen widely on the airwaves, from Amy
Goodman’s ‘Democracy Now’, NPR stations, community radio, the
DishNet satellite ‘Acoustic Crossroads’ channel to various PBS
specials featured twice as performers on “California Heartland”
and have had their song “Calling on Love” featured on a
'Visionaries’ segment. Since 1987 they have independently
produced 8 albums of original music, receiving critical acclaim from
the various trade reviewers. Their 7th CD, ‘Fool’s Paradise’,
released in ’03, features guest appearances by Nina Gerber, Peter Grant (New Riders of the Purple Sage), the late Keith Allen, Rob
Bonner, Mikail Graham - and a stunning acapella version of Woody
Guthrie’s “I’ve Got to Know”. Paul and Eleanore have just released
their 8th independently produced CD, ‘Like Water’ (late ’05)
which features the Little Band, Mikail Graham and Albert Vasquez,
and is already garnering acclaim, and are planning to start work on a
project of mostly previously unrecorded songs written by Utah Phillips, due for release in ’06.

I once heard Paul Kamm & Eleanore MacDonald at 4:30 in the morning and was sure I must have been dreaming, I pulled them aside the next day and made them sing again to prove it wasn’t a mirage, and they are for real, GREAT writing and harmonies that can fuse your spine...

PAUL KAMM & ELEANORE MAC DONALD have managed to defy the odds by not only putting out a fine independently produced project, but by being responsible for writing and singing some of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time by any artist on any size label...
DIRTY LINEN MAGAZINE #40
"Soaring harmonies delivering a powerful and empowering message ... and lots of fun to boot!" ANNE FEENEY
Like experienced vintners, this duo's product -- their musicianship as well as their skill at producing their recordings -- keeps improving as the years pass, and with more than 20 years performing and recording together, they are setting the mark very, very high. Tim O’Laughlin, RAMBLES.NET 2003
Timeless, angelic...sensual, immediate...Paul and Eleanore’s voices weave together like colored ribbons blowing in the wind... no gimmicks, good singing and social and ecological awareness.
MARTIN & JESSICA SIMPSON
Paul and Eleanore are very good and interesting people. They also make wonderful songs which they sing together beautifully...Two fine voices from the West that deserve a wider audience.
UTAH PHILLIPS
Kamm & MacDonald are among the least known folkies on the scene, and most undeservedly so... with soaring vocal harmonies and the considerable strength of Paul’s exquisite melodies, they’ve put together a work of music (Game of Dances) that is unforgettable and elegant in it’s simplicity.
